Profile of ShaanxiCivil Engineering &Architecture Society

    Shaanxi Civil Engineering & Architecture Society，hereinafter referred to as SCEAS, formerly known as Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Area Civil Engineering Society in Yan’an founded in Jan,1942; China Civil Engineering Society Xi’an Sub-association founded in 1953; China Architecture Society Xi’an Sub-Association founded in 1954. In 1959, the two sub-associations were renamed Shaanxi Civil Engineering Society and Shaanxi Architecture Society, and established a council merged into one. The activities were suspended during Cultural Revolution but then reactivated in Oct, 1978. In 1986, it was renamedShaanxiCivil Engineering & Architecture Society.

    Now it is the 11th session of council, and the director-general is Mr. Xue Yongwu. SCEAS has 40 branches in total, including 2 administrative offices, 1 Secretariat and 1 Office of Society; 8 branches affiliated to the Secretariat, including Committees of Academics, Organization, Consultation, Popularization of Science, Youth, Residence, Real Estate, Chief Engineers and 1 Economic Entity;30 Professional Committees and Sub-Committees, including 26 Professional Committees of Architectural Structure, Construction Material, Architecture Construction, Building Energy & Green Building, Construction Economy, Building Electricity, Urban Planning, Village Town Construction, Thermal Energy & Power, Equipment Installation, Soil Mechanics & Foundation, Seismic Engineering, HAVC, Engineering Investigation, Bridge Structure, Road Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Computer Application, Ancient Architecture, Underground Engineering, Building Weak Current, Intelligent Building, Construction Machinery, Water Supply & Drainage, Building Energy, and Underground Infrastructure Construction;3 Sub-Committees of Architects, Interior Design and Quality & Safety of Construction Engineering, and 1 Technological Innovation Strategic Alliance of Green Building Industry in Shaanxi. Now it has 84 unit members and 3107 individual members, with 340 registered members in China Civil Engineering Society and 177 registered members in China Architectural Society.

    SCEAS is a public institution which is engaged in civil engineering construction in the field of investigation, design, construction supervision, scientific research, teaching, as well as academic social organization for scientific & technological workers of civil engineering & architecture area. So it is a nonprofit social organization.

    The Principal and Purpose of SCEAS:

    Observing the Constitution, Laws, regulations, and policies of the state; Adhering to innovative, coordinative, green, open and sharable concepts of development to unify and organizing most scientific & technological workers of civil engineering & architecture area, surrounding the center and seeking the truth and doing practically to promote the provincial prosperity and development for this area, the popularization and extension of Science & Technology of Civil Engineering & Architecture, and people’s growth and improvement of Science & Technology of Civil Engineering & Architecture.

    The Service Range of SCEAS：

    i.Actively carrying out academic exchange at home and abroad, activating academic ideas, promoting subject development and self-innovation; Organizing the activities of scientific information dissemination, exhibitions of scientific & technological achievements and products; Organizing and carrying out the selection and recognition of Science & Technology of Civil Engineering & Architecture in Shaanxi province.

    Promoting the scientific spirit; Popularizing the scientific knowledge of civil engineering & architecture; Disseminating scientific thoughts, expanding advanced technology；Promoting the transformation of scientific & technological achievements; Developing continuing education； Boosting knowledge updating；Holding scientific training courses and improving scientific quality of the whole people.

    Brainstorming and consulting actively for important topic and development planning about architecture technology & economic construction；Accepting commission to undertake scientific & technological projects assessment, results identification, scientific documents editing, and taking part in technical standard setting professional evaluation and certification for professional technical titles, etc.

    Accepting commission of related units to organize, collect, and select excellent designs and evaluate outstanding projects.

    Organizing and carrying out the Excellent Paper Selection and the Excellent Graduation Design Selection of civil engineering and architecture specialty in universities and colleges.

    Editing and publishing science publications；Distributing scientific & technical journals, collection of thesis and technical documents.

    Reflecting views, suggestions and appeals of the scientific & technological workers；Meanwhile protecting their lawful rights.

    Recommending scientific & technological talents; Commending and rewarding scientific & technological workers who achieve outstanding performance or make an important contribution in scientific & technological activities.

    Assisting enterprises to develop technical innovation.

    Establishing scientific and technological entities and social  welfare causes to provide SCEAS with sources of funding for carrying out activities.

    The main activities of SCEAS：

    The main activities of SCEAS are among four areas which include academic activities, science popularization activities, organization for construction and scientific & technological services. In recent years, there has been a new development and remarkable achievements of all the work. For years SCEAS has been awarded as “Four-Star” (the highest grade) and “Five-Star” advanced several times by Shaanxi Provincial Society of Science & Technology. It also has been awarded as Advanced Society by China Civil Engineering Society and China Architectural Society. In the year of 2011 and 2016, it has won the honorary title of “National Advanced Collectives among Society of Science& Technology System” and jointly rewarded by Ministry of Human Resources &Social Security  and  China  Association for Science &  Technology. In 2016, SCEAS has won the annually “Excellence Scientific & Technological Community for Society Innovation & Service Capabilities   Improvement Project”, awarded by Shaanxi Provincial Society of Science & Technology.
